A Holistic Creative Journey
Each day, you’ll combine guided walks, mindfulness practices, and dedicated time for writing and journaling. The pace is gentle, allowing you to fully absorb the Camino’s calming energy, with accommodations for shorter walks if needed. Stay in historic lodgings, from a medieval monastery to a luxurious seaside resort, and savor the flavors of Spain through local cuisine and wine. Along the way, explore Spanish literary heritage, discover coastal treasures, and enjoy enriching group experiences. Together, we’ll create, connect, and be inspired by the heart of Galicia.
DAY 1: I will meet you in Vigo at the main train station in the afternoon, and we will make our way to Baiona together. We will check in to our accommodation, visit Baiona, and enjoy a group welcome dinner to get to know each other. Our terrace dinner comes with a beautiful view of the nearby islands.
DAY 2: Buffet group breakfast at our accommodation. Start our camino walk near Vigo (8ml/13km). Group lunch in a restaurant near the town of Pontesampaio that features fresh seafood delicacies of Galicia. Visit Castelo de Soutomaior and gardens. Its origin dates back to the reign of Alfonso VII in the 12th century. The extensive gardens boast trees from all over the world. Check in to our accommodation at a rural stone house boutique hotel. Free time to rest.
DAY 3: Continental group breakfast at our accommodation. Do the Camino river walk into Pontevedra (5ml/3km). I’ll give you a tour of Pontevedra before checking in to our accommodation. Group lunch. Check in to our accommodation and free time in this magnificent city with Roman origins. The beautifully preserved historical center blends with a modern vibe of bars, restaurants, and museums.
DAY 4: Buffet group breakfast at our accommodation. Walk from Pontevedra to Cambarro on the Spiritual Variant path (7ml/11km). We will visit the monastery and museum in Poio on our way to the quaint seaside town of Combarro. The monastery that we see today is traced back to the 16th century. It also boasts one of the largest raised traditional granaries in Galicia, known as an hórreo. Traditional Galician group lunch in a restaurant along the Ria de Pontevedra. Check into our accommodation and get to know the charming town and enjoy a beautiful sunset.
DAY 5: Continental breakfast at a cafe in town. Our walk today takes us on the enchanting path of Stone and Water near the monastery of Armenteira. It is almost 5 miles of some of the most scenic and lush segments on this route. The old stone mills, bridges, and fast moving waterways inspire my imagination. I like to say that if fairies existed, this is where they’d live. Before our walk, we will visit the monastery, steeped in legend, and whose first stones were laid in the 12th century. Another exquisite group lunch awaits us in one more charming fishing village along an estuary of the Atlantic. After lunch we will taste the famous Albarino Wine of the region and check into our accommodation for free time and rest.
DAY 6: Buffet group breakfast at our accommodation. We’ll walk to Vilanova de Arousa, the birthplace of famous Spanish/Gallego writer, Ramon del Valle Inclán. Statues of this playwright dot towns throughout Galicia. The path takes through small towns, forests and along the water’s edge for about 7 miles/11km. Our well-earned lunch is at a restaurant known is known for their delicious fried calamari. Then we check in to our traditional stone house that’s been beautifully updated. Maybe we’ll catch a picturesque sunset. And those interested can visit the childhood home and museum of Ramon del Valle Inclán.
DAY 7: Continental breakfast at a cafe in town. Then we catch a boat to Pontencensures, where we’ll walk 1 mile into the town of Padrón, our last town before Santiago de Compostela and the end of our camino journey. We’ll rest a bit today and stay at a lovely Pousada (a historic 16th century Galician manor that housed noblemen and later archbishops). Another group lunch awaits us with a modern twist on traditional foods. We’ll explore the important Cathedral of Santiago de Padrón, visit the museum of another famous writer, poet and novelist Rosalia de Castro, who also helped develop the Galician literary language.
DAY 8: Buffet group breakfast at our accommodation. This is the last stretch of our camino walk. We will start midway to Santiago for an 8 mile/13km walk to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Our Despedida (goodbye) lunch is another delight in one of Santiago’s Michelin mentioned restaurants. Although this is the end of our trip, I can book a cathedral rooftop tour for those interested, and highly recommend you attend a mass at the the cathedral, where you might get to see the famous Botafumeiro (a large incense that swings across the nave of the church). It’s quite spectacular to see it “fly” in person. (accommodations in Santiago not included).
